Facets of Reason: Rick Buckley

6 - 28 September 2008

UNION Gallery (Teesdale Street) is pleased to present a solo exhibition of drawings by Rick Buckley.

Facets of Reason is a fragment arising from a wider body of work, belonging to the High Dwelling mythology, a journey commencing from the eighth day. The day on which man began to question his own existence, and whereupon falls into a state of melancholy. Thus setting forth on a quest within his own dark interior, in search of the object of enlightenment and impossible beauty, of which will release him from the shackles of his melancholic state.

Equipped with a globe of fire he is guided through the murky cavernous dwelling of the sub-conscious where the Facets of Reason (diamond portraiture) reside. They in turn are allegories for an array of multi-faceted realities.

The impenetrability of these faceted surfaces deny access to a definition that which may not exist within the reality of the searcher, but may offer entry into other realities, wherein the seduction of the object follows a retreat into an artificial ecstasy.

References are drawn from the character of Los, from William Blake’s epic poem Jerusalem and Socrates’ wings of wisdom philosophy.
